Steeple Playhouse Performing Arts Center

Beginning in 2015, Your Theatre, Inc. and the Waterfront Historic Area LeaguE (WHALE) led an active team effort to save the historic First Baptist Church in downtown New Bedford. After a successful feasibility study funded by the Mass Cultural Council and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the project moved forward to repurpose the church as a permanent home for Your Theatre, Inc. and become a partner for other local performing arts groups while retaining a home for the congregation.

The First Baptist Church is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Your Theatre, Inc. owns, actively cares for, and maintains this beautifully renovated local landmark by enabling the community to make and celebrate art in a shared place.

After a decade-long fundraising and renovation project, the Steeple Playhouse opened in November 2023. Today, Steeple Playhouse Performing Arts Center hosts local nonprofits and arts groups for performances and presentations.

Your Theatre, Inc. and Steeple Playhouse are proud to acknowledge that the land we live, create, and celebrate on is the original home of the Wampanoag and Massachusetts Nations. We acknowledge the long history of this place, and we honor the many Indigenous peoples still connected to this land upon which we all create.
